Day 01: Arrival in Colombo / Transfer to Kandy / Overnight in Kandy

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo and meet your private driver for a scenic drive to Kandy, approximately three to four hours. Pass through lush countryside, paddy fields, and small villages as you settle into Sri Lanka’s central highlands. Evening at leisure allows you to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings of Kandy. Overnight stay is arranged in Kandy, providing easy access to cultural sites and temples.

Start the day with a guided visit to the Temple of the Tooth, home to the sacred relic of the Buddha. Observe rituals and learn about the temple’s spiritual and historical significance. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kandyan dance and drumming performance, immersing yourself in local music, rhythm, and culture. Overnight stay remains in Kandy, giving time to rest before venturing deeper into the highlands.

Drive through winding roads, rolling hills, and tea estates to Nuwara Eliya, often called “Little England.” Stop at a local tea plantation to learn about cultivation, harvesting, and tea processing, followed by a tasting of freshly brewed highland tea. Explore Nuwara Eliya town, including colonial architecture, Gregory Lake, and local markets. Overnight stay is arranged in Nuwara Eliya, offering comfort amidst lush landscapes.

Board the train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, considered one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. Pass mist-covered mountains, waterfalls, and vibrant tea estates along the way. Upon arrival, visit Ravana Falls, a striking multi-tiered waterfall ideal for photography and a short nature walk. Evening at leisure allows exploration of Ella town or nearby viewpoints. Overnight stay is arranged in Ella.

Start the morning with a moderate hike up Little Adam’s Peak for panoramic views of valleys, tea plantations, and surrounding mountains. Visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, a marvel of colonial-era engineering set amidst lush greenery. Spend the afternoon relaxing or wandering through local cafés and markets. Overnight stay remains in Ella, providing rest before returning to Nuwara Eliya.

Depart early to Horton Plains National Park for a guided hike to World’s End, a sheer cliff offering breathtaking vistas over the central highlands. Explore the park’s misty grasslands, cloud forests, and waterfalls while spotting endemic birds and wildlife along the trail. After the hike, transfer back to Nuwara Eliya for an overnight stay, reflecting on the day’s adventure and scenic beauty.

After breakfast, drive from Nuwara Eliya to Colombo, approximately four to five hours depending on traffic. Enjoy final glimpses of the central highlands, passing tea estates, rivers, and villages along the way.
